"Caring & Sharing - A Simple Way to Provide Food Assistance"

Please return
our Bags

We have a very high success rate of retrieving our bags, however we lose the opportunity to reuse the bags when they are not returned.

Not returning a bag can result in a lost opportunity to see hundreds of pounds of food being delivered to a food bank annualy.
The need for food assistance is always greater than the food donated.

Returning our bag is caring even if the bag is empty.

THANK YOU!

Friday Kid's Pack Delivery at Loughman Oaks Elementary

(November 30, 2010)

On Tuesday November 30, 2010 a group of business people from the four corners area arrived at Loughman Oaks Elementary School on 17/92 in Loughman at 4:00 PM.

The business group was from the "Four Corners Area Council" of the Chamber of Commerce who had collected money to purchase food and clothing items for a number of children in need at this school.

Part of the money raised was spent to purchase new sneakers, pants, shirts, socks, underwear, belts and jackets during a shopping trip to Wal Mart. The purchase was supervised by the assistant principle Wanda Aponte and parent liaison Gail Vickery.

The remaining part of the funds was spent on food for the kids to take home on Friday afternoon, so they have enough food at home during the weekend. The food delivered included peanut butter, grape jelly, spaghetti & meatballs, oatmeal, noodle soup packets, pasta & cheese sauce and 1200 boxes of macaroni & cheese.

Several local business people also collected food at their business locations and approximately 100 of our green bags was filled with food donations.

The food is held in the school pantry and every Friday afternoon the backpacks of the children in critical need of weekend food are filled with the donated food and the children then carry the food home.

These children are very young starting with pre kindergarten and then up to grade five. The teachers and staff know which children are going home to households with little or no weekend food and then returning to school on Monday morning very very hungry.

Loughman Oaks is the fourth school that the "Green Bag Project" has accepted into our "Fridays Kids Packs" program. The first in early September was Eastside Elementary in Haines City then Sunrise Elementary in Kissimmee followed by Westside Elementary in Osceola County near the Polk County line.

Our focus is now on our ability to resupply these schools with food. We are seeking school "Ambassador's" for each school who will donate $1.00 a month or $10.00 for the school year.

Companies, professional organizations, church's, service groups such as Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis and others can all join in this effort and assist these young children to have weekend food.

We also have three additional schools in Osceola and Polk Counties waiting to hear if and when we will be able to deliver food to their school.

Thank you for Caring & Sharing
